HR Tips & Answers

Our business world is changing!

We don’t need to tell you that the world as we knew it 2 years ago has changed.  The implications of the big “P” on us all has been at the least frustrating and for some businesses downright devastating.

The heavy hitters of the corporate world are reviewing the implications of the way forward for their businesses and looking to not only adapt but take advantage of the “new world.”

In looking at some of their learnings (the ones that they are willing to share!), we can look at our own businesses and review the way that we have done things in the past and adjust as required for the future.

Here are some points for discussion within your own management teams and remember they are just a few of the many things that we will all need to consider going forward.

Hybrid working – Office and home for some may be here to stay.  If you haven’t already done so, it may be worthwhile looking at your WHS policies.  Your staff working from their own home still come under your WHS and WorkCover obligations.

Implications of working from home – If your staff are going to be working from home on an ongoing basis; what equipment are your required supply & maintain, do you need to compensate them for their utility/internet or other costs and how will you manage this?

Security of your IT systems – this is especially important when staff are working hybrid or solely from home.  Do you need to talk with your IT provider about the security of your systems and how to monitor?

Measuring productivity – We have come to realise that we can trust our staff to do the work that we expected them to do when working from home.  So how are you going to measure their output going forward and what does it mean to their Position Descriptions?

Industrial Relations  – The world of Industrial Relations continues to change frequently and dramatically so you will need to keep on top of any Award changes, legislative decisions; their complexity and any impact for your business.

Review your procedures and policies –  Generally, you should be reviewing your policies and procedures annually but in this ever-changing world you may need to consider reviewing them on a more regular basis.

As you all know we are here to help, so if you want to talk through the implications of the changes or need help to review your documents, awards and staffing strategies then give us a call or drop us an email.
