Work Christmas Parties and COVID-19!

We wrote a Blog on work Christmas functions in September, and we suggest that you review that article prior to your Christmas functions this year (Christmas Parties and Other Work Functions – How Everyone Can Enjoy Them!).

We are all looking forward to unwinding at the end of another challenging year but as you know COVID-19 is continuing to throw us curve balls!

So this year, if you have staff or their partners who are not fully vaccinated and you want to make the work Christmas Party available to all your staff and their families your best bet may be to have a private function in a park or an open area where you can comply with the current suite of COVID-19 restrictions.

As we are all aware, if you arrange to have your function at a Restaurant, a Pub or other similar venue, then the venue is obliged and you as the owner of the business are also obliged, to ensure all those attending meet the COVID-19 rules that apply. That is, all those attending must be fully vaccinated and are able to show proof of their vaccination status or have a legal exemption.

Remember from our earlier Blog, a Christmas function is a work function and you as the business owner or manager are liable for all the actions of your staff and their families at the function and until they get back home and that means the COVID-19 rules of your business also apply while your staff and their families are at your work function.
