Chief of Staff

This pivotal role ensures that the work of the Office of Helen Haines MP, Independent Federal Member for Indi is managed in a professional and responsive manner.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead Helen’s team to bring about changes and improvements on key issues for the electorate of Indi.

 As a highly motivated and strategically thinking person, with excellent financial and management skills, you will have worked in a senior executive or senior advisory position, with knowledge of federal politics and parliamentary processes/procedures and major contemporary issues. Your extensive experience is reinforced by a tertiary qualification in Law, Economics, Social Science, Politics or similar.

Your skills will oversee policy development, parliamentary business, strategy and communications for Helen’s engagement with government. You will manage the team to deliver advocacy and representation to the community of Indi on priority issues in a timely and approachable manner.

You will be passionate about building and leading teams and enhancing the skills and expertise of your staff.  You have empathy, tact and judgment that assists you to work collaboratively with the wide range of people within the community.

Your communication skills will be exemplary; you will have highly developed skills in relationship building within community and key stakeholders.  

The position requires travel to Canberra to provide support during the sitting of Parliament and other places as necessary.

Remuneration is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019.

Media and Communications Adviser

This position is vital in keeping the media and people of Indi informed about Helen Haines MP’s work in a timely and professional manner.

It is an exciting opportunity to be part of Helen’s team working to bring about changes and improvements on key issues for the electorate of Indi.

The office is seeking a highly motivated person with relevant media and communications experience who has developed strategic media releases to be used across all the available media platforms.  You must be able to adapt strategically to deliver concise and engaging information to a media savvy world including social media networking sites that reflect the values, priorities and ’brand ‘of Helen Haines MP.

You will have a well-developed understanding of the intricacies of the political environment.  You will be the point of contact for all media requests for Helen to deliver strategic messaging.  Your skills will include building and expanding relationships with the local media and the Canberra press gallery.  You will be required to respond to requests for comment at all times of the day and night

Reporting to Helen’s Chief of Staff, the position requires you to work cooperatively within a cohesive team at multiple locations.

The position requires travel to Canberra to provide support during the sitting of Parliament and other places as necessary.

Policy Adviser 

This exciting position in the Office of Helen Haines MP, Independent Federal Member for Indi is to support Helen and her office in all areas of policy and electorate business.

It is an opportunity to be part of Helen’s team working to bring about changes and improvements on key issues for the electorate of Indi.

You will have a well-developed understanding of the intricacies of the political environment, high level research skills, with the ability to develop policy statements, papers, submissions, press releases, policy briefs and proposals as well as manage and conduct negotiations with government, shadow ministerial offices and staff, cross bench staff and stakeholders on policy specific to the Indi electorate and the Nation.

Your experience is reinforced by a tertiary qualification in Politics, Law, Economics, or Social Science, or similar.

This is a dynamic position which requires a high degree of loyalty, versatility and the ability to maintain confidentiality on behalf of the MP and of those who contact the MP’s office

The position requires travel to Canberra to provide support during the sitting of Parliament and other places as necessary.

Policy and Parliamentary Adviser

This exciting position in the Office of Helen Haines MP is vital in allowing Helen to maximise her effectiveness by providing timely advice and management of priority issues for her work in Federal Parliament.

You will have a well-developed understanding of the Australian political environment, a detailed knowledge of parliamentary processes and excellent negotiation skills to achieve outcomes for Helen and her electorate of Indi.

You will be responsible for the management of Helen’s parliamentary activity including legislation advice, preparation and amendments, policy briefs and proposals, committee work and inquiry, preparation of reports, Private Member’s Bills, motions, speech notes and Parliamentary groups.

A relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in Politics, Law, economics, social sciences or public policy with an understanding of the Australian political system, detailed knowledge of parliamentary processes and current political issues.

Reporting to Helen’s Chief of Staff, the position requires you to work cooperatively within a cohesive team at multiple locations.
